The Blacksmith Club

I went along to the Brisbane Blacksmith Club with a workmate of mine. That's him on the right, Paul.

I had a plan to make a stoker for my stove. Paul guided me through the process of heating and shaping the steel. Three hours later I had a functional tool. Working with a hammer and red hot steel is a lot harder than I thought it would be. For a start the fire is around 2000 deg/c which is hot in anyones books. Then there is the constant hammering, with a heavy hammer. When I left I was tired and dehydrated but happy with what I had achieved. The great thing is that if I feel like it I can heat it up again and change it.

I got home around 2.30 and decided to have a well earned nap.

I woke up a 4.45, and the afternoon was gone. I must have been more knackered than I thought!

It was a good day though.
