Ploughing on
I went over to Townings Farm on the south side of the commons. Townings is the traditional low-weald family farm that looks after the Hebridean sheep that graze on the common. Today they had a vintage harvest fair with lots of vintage tractors and harvesters working the fields against the backdrop of the South Downs.
Walking home across a part of the commons I haven't visited for a couple of years I noticed a couple of marsh gentians in flower and several more in bud. I believe that marsh gentian is quite limited in its distribution, prefering acid bogs and wet heathland. I'll try and blip them later in the week.
