Phoenix Gardens Summer Fete
It was Sir Thomas Beecham who said "One should try everything except incest and Morris Dancing"
For those unfamiliar with the latter, it is a form of English folk dance, happening between men wearing bells on their legs and either waving handkerchiefs at each other or wooden sticks in a mildly comic manner.
Adding to the general Englishness were cake stalls, together with vegetable carving contests, animals and a traditional rather un-PC Punch and Judy.
My friend Sian won two gardening awards.
