Ok, this is directly inspired by this painting by Magritte. However, it was also partly inspired by watching Stephen Fry's 100 top gadgets earlier this week. While they were discussing the biro, someone commented on how it was a sensory pleasure writing on a banana skin with a biro - so of course I had to give it a try! I wasn't sure what to write, until I remembered the painting by Magritte. I also liked the contradiction of writing 'this is not a banana' on the banana - obviously a false statement, but now that I've taken a photograph of it, and it's no longer a banana but a photograph - the statement is now true, only through the action of taking a photo. ...or something :)
