Bouldered over by Brendan
During an afternoon climbing trip, we stopped to watch the grand final of the summer bouldering league. These guys are amazing, and most amazing of all was Brendan - the eventual and very convincing winner.
Bouldering is still a bit of a mystery to me. I know people that love it, but the lack of ropes and the necessity to be able to swing your entire bodyweight in a controlled fashion using only one finger makes me a bit scared.
The problems that were set today looked virtually impossible, and this contestant made them look almost easy. He was the youngest by at least 10 years, the smallest and the most modest (and also the only one that didn't insist on taking his top off).
Inspiring stuff. To some. I clapped loudly, cheered a bit . . . and then went and put my harness back on . . .
Maybe one day I'll be brave.
