Desperate measures!

Have been helping friends this weekend (again)with their recently acquired house and garden. Major building works required to the house, and they start tomorrow. Today was mainly spent stripping out all the ground floor carpets, vinyl, and various ancient "white goods".

About 25 or more years ago, somebody connected up the hot water supply for a dishwasher here (instead of a cold supply). Suspect the valve hasn't been used since. It was seized open, but eventually closed, when tools were applied... well almost. Whatever seal was in there, no longer works, or there's some other issue. Hot water kept flowing out, so in desperation we resorted to using what we had lying about - some scraps of wood, and a G-clamp over part of the flexible hose!
