Distant

Tonight I went to see PJ Harvey at the Royal Concert Hall. It was a good night but a rock gig it was not. Technically the music was great but this was an attempt at a piece of theatre that I don't think worked.
There was nothing said to the audience till she was leaving the stage, there were silent instrument bumping interludes between songs. At the end of each song she stepped out of the light and back into the darkness. She stood apart from the band. This was a journey she was taking and I don't think she really cared if I was there or not.
I am afraid it left me cold. This is a complete contrast to the gig she played at the Queens Hall a few years ago, which I would put up there as one of the best gigs I have every seen.
