Caught in the Rain
While at the market with a friend the rain began. With only a sprinkling of warning, sheets of rain began falling. Like golf balls being poured onto a metal roof, we had to yell to be heard, even standing right next to each other.
I came back to Thailand in the middle of rainy season. Really, the rain is nice. It cools everything off and sometimes breaks the humidity a bit. However, the side effects aren't my favorite.
After waiting for over an hour for the torrential rain to stop and looking in the same shops over and over, we decided to huddle under my small umbrella and try to make it home. The usual 8 minute walk took triple the time as we tried to decide the route with the most awnings to walk under and hesitated at every curb before trudging through the mucky, brown, ankle-deep water that was constantly rising.
Of course, we got home damper than we left, the bottom of our capris wet and desiring to wash off our feet, but at least we had a good story to tell.
By morning, everything should be drying up. The flooding in driveways and down the streets will turn back to puddles. We will head back to the market for our evening meal and take the chance of being caught in the rain again. Maybe I'll have another good story for tomorrow. :)
