Mesembryanthemum

Today's the day .......................... to flower at noon

I think it was round about midday when I took this picture in my Mum's garden of this irridescent little flower with the enormously long name. Apparently the derivation of Mesembryanthemum is from the greek words for 'noon' and 'flower'.

Native to South Africa, the flowers only open when the sun is shining - but when they do, the vibrant oranges, reds and yellows of the petals seem to positively glow with colour ........................
