Clearing
About a month ago we started putting up a fence. We wanted to fence in an area a little larger than the back yard. We cut a path through our woods so the dogs would have a shaded area to run through. We have an invisible fence but, Bear has such a high prey drive that he would chase squirrels and be moving so fast that he would run right through and never feel the shock. Adding the fence has been a real pain since we live in Rockland Township. As you can see by the rocks in the picture the township really lives up to its name. Also, if you recall from one of my very first blips The Giant Rock on our property is also a good indication of the rocks we have.
Finally, the back yard is fenced in but, the part where we went through the woods was a tangled mess of trees, stickers, and scrub brush. The storm (Hurricane Irene) last weekend knocked two trees down in this area (a large Hickory & a Cherry) and also ripped the invisible fence wire when the Hickory fell over. With the long weekend on us I decided to start clearing the messy area. Sunday, I cut down small trees, the stickers, and other assorted things. Finally, it is all clear except for a few trees, rocks, and part of that Hickory tree that feel. Mark left the Hickory for the dogs to play on. Our bag yard is like a doggie playground especially this newly cleared area. The large rocks and fallen tree are great fun for the dogs. They run, jump and climb on these things like they are in an agility class. We have already decided to plant a few more trees to add some variety and color. I also have a couple other ideas but, will wait to see how things go.
