Diamonds and Rust

Esgair Fraith Mine

The crusher house at Esgair Fraith, on of the largest and once most productive of the many lead/silver mines of mid-Wales. Long abandoned and derelict, and largely unloved except by a small band of mining enthusiasts - and some botanists and lichenologists (these sites are often of exceptional interest for metallophyte lichens). I find these are fascinating places. (Out here today to discuss management options with Forestry Commission who own the site).
