The Aptly Named Purgatory Chasm

We should have known better than to choose a holiday weekend to explore Purgatory Chasm, a place that is indeed somewhere between heaven and hell. It's pure heaven if you're a lover of the outdoors and oddities of nature, a kid with endless reserves of energy, or a parent whose parenting decisions are of a devil-may-care variety. It is pure hell if you're a lover of the outdoors and serenity, a believer that dog owners (even those who choose to take their dogs through a narrow gorge filled with piles of huge boulders and hundreds of screaming parents and children) should carry poop bags on them at all times in public places, or a misanthrope. I will say this, however -- if Purgatory has an off-season, it would definitely be worth the visit.
