nature's ingenuity

This is the web of a tunneling spider we found on our "nature's succession" hike/ meander out toward High Tor. The dark hole in the center of the photo is the center of the tunnel and you can see the web funnel out. The spiders sit in the middle and wait for something to get caught and then scurry out. We used a piece of grass to tickle the web and lure the spider out to see. They are about dime sized and many shades of brown. It was a great hike!
