Earthball

An earlymorning walk before I setoff to Oxford. Conditions seem to be just right this year for earthballs, there are thousands of them on the common. As they age the outer skin stretches and starts to resemble bark. This is a detail from a rather large one - about 9 inches across which looked like a rather rustic bread roll. I'm sure its about to burst open and release its spores.
