Community activity leader programme
I've been working on an inspirational project for the last 14 months which brought together 3 of the major players in the active leisure industry to create 140 Community Activity Leader (CAL) jobs for today?s NEETs (Not in Employment, Education or Training). Funded by the Department of Work and Pensions, DC Leisure, MEND and Lifetime formed a partnership to recruit, train and provide 6 month work placements for 18-24 year olds across the country. http://www.mendcentral.org/partners/specialprojects/communityact
Today was the last exit session of the programme. It's been interesting to see how these young people have progressed during their time on project. I have certainly witnessed postitive changes in all graduates and during these sessions they have acknowledged the impact it has made on them too.
increased confidence
improved communication
an ability to work independently
a willingness to take responsibility for their behaviour and their future
The whole programme ends later this month. All that's left is the 'mop up' to reflect, review and report. It's been a fascinating journey for me as well as the young people involved but now it's time for us all to move on to new things. I wish them all the very best for their future.
