...(another) Greek Tragedy

Symi island is without day trippers from Rhodes today and for the forseeable future. The life blood of this island is not so much me and the missus and the few hundred other over-nighting guests here, spending our hard earned bucks but the day trippers in their thousands every day. This is a disaster the island can ill afford. Now, I don't really like the day trippers as they are like a plague that descend on my tranquil world and disturb the peace and harmony that exists here but their money is vital to the community. The problem is insurance. A phony company has managed to sell policies to over 70 ships, including all the day tripping boats to Symi. The police were informed (most likely by a bitter honest competitor) and have impounded all the boats until it can be sorted. The owners of the boats have had another bad year (which was why they probably didn't hesitate to take a cheap deal) so it's uncertain that, even if they can get inspected asap, they can afford to reinsure.

I know that's really quite boring but it is one of the many examples of how corruption and criminalty is killing this economy and they just keep making things worse for each other here. ........sigh.

It is, however, very very nice and quiet. Which is nice.
