Business Trip to Straubing, Bavaria I
First day of a two-day business trip to Straubing, Bavaria (ca. 420 km one way).
I had exactly 25 minutes (from 6:00 pm til 6:25 pm) to take a quick look at the city. Very busy and very long day (after business came the fun part - dinner in a veeeery old Bavarian restaurant, beer (of course) and I survived Bärwurz-Schnaps....)
I was standing in the middle of the street in front of our hotel to take this picture of the Stadtturm (Town Tower), the landmark of Straubing. The hotel info leaflet said the foundations for the 68-meter-high, eight-storeyed fire and watch tower werde laid in 1315, and by the 16th century it housed the town watch and boasted five spires. The view is supposed to be great from the top, but I had no chance to give it a try.
On the left is the sunlit Dreifaltigskeitssäule (Holy Trinity Column).
It was erected in 1709 as a result of a pledge made by the citizens during the Spanish War of Succession and is dedicated to the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit.
