In case they forget how to walk
This morning was a gentle enough run (trying to avoid getting too full of lurgy to go out at all). My first photos were of the sunrise including a couple from Western Park. This evening while waiting for the wait staff to bring the wine and garlic pizza bread, I took some pictures of a brilliant red sunset.
However, I have chosen this photo to put up; taken at the end of my run, on Great North Road outside the apartment building. The organisers for the Rugby Union World Cup 2011, have produced a "Fan Trail" beginning at Britomart, the central railway station, and taking a pedestrian friendly route to Eden Park.
Intermittently along Great North Road are these signs attached to lamp posts identifying it as the Fan Trail with an arrow pointing upwards. I guess it means straight ahead. In this case straight ahead is back to the central city away from Eden Park. Therefore, one hopes that the fans don't get disorientated and follow the arrows back to where they started.
Perhaps for that reason, they have provided this pavement message hoping that the addition of green footprints will keep the fans walking in the correct direction. Following the footprints will take the fans that need such close guidance 10- 15 m before there is a gap of a few hundred metres. These signs may not actually help those who have forgotten how to walk.
The dairy behind the large silver fern flag has 20 flags around its awning, one each for the participating countries. Hoping that by not declaring any specific allegiance they will attract customers from all passers by.
S and I for different reasons needed to enjoy a meal out tonight. A rude awakening for her, when the ambulance service rang her to tell her that her mother had activated her alarm and was being brought back to the city to the hospital where S ended up spending most of the day with her mother who is stable again. I collected her after I had finished a long day of appointments, assessments, and concentrating.
After some lovely grilled snapper and a Waiheke Island Syrah I was content. S still rather worried, but she enjoyed her chosen meal and a Marlborough gewurtztraminer. Even on the bad and hard days, some pleasure exists.
