Name That Plant

This artichoke flower was growing in a yard that I passed on my walk today. The stalk was about 4 feet high. It's not the prettiest artichoke flower I've ever seen but it's the first one I've ever seen growing around here. I wonder if they planted it especially for the flower or just never got around to harvesting it.
