Casterbridge
A visit to the dentist this morning down in Dorchester, Hardy's Casterbridge.
This view is looking along a busy South Street towards Cornhill where one can just glimpse the tall town pump built in Portland Stone. Henchard (in the Mayor of Casterbridge) lived in this street but further down behind me. The building with the clock tower is the Corn Exchange and the road running straight across to the left of it finds one in Bull Stake Square, now named North Square, where Hardy as a teenager witnessed the hanging of a woman outside the prison which is still in use today.
Twin calves born yesterday but unfortunately the mother has mastitis and so the calves are unable to suck but T has been feeding them colostrum from a neighbour's cow.
