Orb

I went for a walk in Stenness up along the shore of Loch of Stenness and beyond the stones of the Ring of Brodgar. The sky was pretty grey and without much in the way of decent clouds.

I tend to think that iron floats like this one are from the war and used to hold up the steel nets that protected anchorages from u-boats. This loch is open to the sea, so the float could have bobbed along here over the years.

Saw a few birds...including a kestrel, a close hen harrier and an even closer short-eared owl which sprang from the grass only five metres ahead. Too quick for me to get a sharp image. Also saw a flock of about three hundred golden plover.
