Lachlan Macquarie's Mausoleum
The Father of Australia.
His final resting place on Mull.
Just east of the landing pier from the island of Ulva where he was born.
Interesting to see a site maintained by the Australian National Trust on a small island off the west coast of Scotland.
In 1948, Lady Yarborough, the owner of a nearby estate, gifted the mausoleum site to the people of New South Wales.
Macquarie oversaw the changing of Australia from a penal colony to a free society.
An interesting piece of international history in a far flung corner of a Scottish island.
