Possibilities

I've been working today with a team of people running an event for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

As with pretty much every career, there's a lot of insecurity around about what is necessary to be successful in an academic career, but I found it inspiring today to see how engaged the participants were. I had a conversation with one woman who had come to the higher education sector later than others and who was not at all sure she wanted to make the sacrifices that were being described in order to increase her chances of success. What impressed me was how ready she was to take on suggestions about different approaches.

So much easier to be open to possibilities if you keep your mind open to where they might come from.
