"I want to speak English more."
"Then practice speaking with me everyday."
"But I don't want to say it wrong."
"I speak Thai wrong all the time, and you understand. I will understand your English too. You just have to practice."

I have this conversation over and over with different students I meet. Some are more motivated to practice with the hopes of being a hotel manager or airline hostess, others just know it would be good to learn. Whatever goal lies behind their desire to learn, plenty have improved substantially in the past year. I hope those who have held back out of shyness or just not wanting to "say it wrong" will keep trying.
