Seven Sisters Dreaming

by Alma Nungarrayi Granites

There is a Western Australia Aboriginal legend about the the Jakamarra man who, through love, pursues the seven Napaljarri sisters. In a final attempt to escape him they transform themselves into fire and assend to heaven as stars.

This dreaming is unusual in showing the seven sisters being pursued by the morning star across the heavens in blues and purples, rather than the usual terrestrial depiction in ochres, browns and oranges.

Alma is a member of the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation; I hung her dreaming on my wall last week; hope you like it as much as me.

EDIT: Well, I'm sure you would have enjoyed it, but just I've realised that I've been a bit stupid re: the copyright rules. So, all you get to see is the fountain in front of my apartment block......
