It's been a few days since my last blip. Since then I've been at college, went to an exhibition in the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, worked, partied and slept.
Today I was enrolled to do the Higher English course on-line, so here's hoping it goes well a second time round. Fingers crossed.
The exhibits which my two friends and I went to see were Jennifer Cantwell - Birdsong and Alexander Hamilton - Stromata. They were quite simple yet fascinating.
Jennifer Cantwell exhibited birdhouses which were coated in patterned, knitted fabrics with an audio recording attached. The recordings were taken at certain times of the day in different locations, where you could hear the different sounds of nature, including birds.
Her pieces were unusual, yet interesting. She involves nature with a nature based product, by the means of sound technology. This technique allows the art enthusiast to interact with nature while admiring the beautiful stitch work and pattern of the hand-knitted fabric 'coat.'
Whereas, Hamiltons' work was so simple, yet gorgeous. He used a technique known as 'Cyanography' whereby he used watercolour paper covered with a Cyan coloured photo sensitive solution. He would then trap foliage between the paper and a glass panel and place it in sunlight for a short period of time. The sunlight releases the natural pigmentation from the foliage which creates a negative. (Where the pigments attack the solution, the paper is paler). It seems a simple process, but produces some amazing artwork. The simplicity of the pieces make it attractive. Examples of his work.
