Dinosaurs in amber
I met my friend Mel for lunch today at the MetQuarter - a rather soulless 'luxury' shopping centre but a handy distance from both of our offices.
The recession certainly seems to have taken its toll on shoppers as there were only a handful of people around and the coffee shop/deli that we went to was giving away free cake in order to entice people in through the metaphorical tumbleweed (thanks for the lovely slice of carrot cake Franklins!)
The MetQuarter was built inside the shell of the old Central Post Office which was itself built on the site of Liverpool's first synagogue (c. 1750) and an interesting feature of the shopping centre conversion work is that various small items have been preserved in amber between some of the building blocks. I may well return to blip more at some point but, as an example, here are some samples of what appear to be the plans for the building.
Not quite as exciting as the dinosaur feathers in amber which have been discovered in Alberta but a nice touch I think.
