Dilemma

This has again been going on for the last one and half months. People parading in queue with their vehicles for a meagre ration of fuel for their vehicles (vehicles are put in queue one or two days before rationing day!)- the fall-out of one of the frequent economic blockades in the national highways as a means to fulfil any kind of demand against the state by civil societies.

No one can tell how many economic blockades would be launched per year but one can always be sure if once begun it lasts for a considerable length of time.

The Sadar Hills District Demand Committee has been demanding for a districthood of the Sadar Hills area since long. This year sees the protest at its strongest peak with major launch of general strike, burning trucks carrying goods/foods, piling stones/woods on the highways. They now resort to indefinite fasting till the demands are fulfilled.

However, the govt. is in dilemma since some other ethnic groups are against the formation of the new district warning against bifurcating their areas into the said district by demonstrating agitations every now and then.

It's not only petroleum products but also all kinds of commodities including food and medicines that are affected by the blockade rising prices sky high.

The image above is the two wheelers' side. On the other side is the queue for four wheeleers and three wheelers. Buses and trucks and others would be seen in long queues in rationing days of diesel.
