Circle of Life

This is the third in a series of seasonal photos of the Green Valley/Sahuarita Pecan Groves, the largest irrigated groves in the world. The first was taken in January.  Notice there that the growth from the winter cut had already begun.

The second photo was in the spring, in late April.  The pecans were starting to grow and the trees were filling out nicely.

I couldn't get the same view for today's blip because of road construction, but you can see how heavy and laden with pecans these trees have now become. They are literally drooping.  The pecans will be harvested during the first week of November.

Arkensielphoto is documenting a change of seasons, too, and inspired me to pull mine all together.

For four hours yesterday, radar indicated that some areas south of the Tucson airport (as I was driving through it, pulling off the road several times) may have received more than seven inches of rain. Officially at the Tucson International Airport, the total was 2.84" of rain. This total was historic. It came in as the 5th wettest day in Tucson's records and the second wettest in the month of September. With Thursday's rain total, it will go into the record books as the wettest September on record.
