Sign of times past

Found this today when on an early-ish wander round Virginia Street in the Merchant City. It's the inner edge of a doorway, although I didn't pay attention to what the door lead to, as the faded signage hooked me.

I can't make out half the writing but it's the mystery of what it may have said once that is the attraction of old signs like this.

The street this doorway is on is a treasure trove so I'll be back for more blips.
