Y Stryd Yn Y Cwm

I went to Pontypridd today to visit my very good friend. I am from Pontypool originally, which is a different valley, but I always think this street is quite typical of the Welsh valleys in general.

I am sure everyone is deeply saddened by the tragic news from the Swansea valley which has unfolded throughout today. This is very close to home for me, both geographically but also because my own uncle was killed in a mining accident many years ago. Where he was killed, like most, is no longer a working mine....in fact it's a museum now.

I don't think many people even realised that there was mining still going on in South Wales, but for the worst possible reason...they do now. My heartfelt sympathies to all those affected. x
