Pink Moth
I'm sorry the image is out of focus, but I am so taken with this very tiny creature I had to post it anyway! What color! what pattern! my goodness. I first saw it on the erigeron, and it is the same color as the tiny pink flowers. Sneaking up on things that fly is very very difficult, so off it went at the first shadow I caused. But then there it was on the fence, and more willing to stay still. It is much less than a half-inch in any direction, way smaller than my littlest fingernail.
I'm hoping some of you buggier people out there might know what this is...
I got a very quick response from BugGuide.net--it is most likely Pyrausta volupialis
