Running Out of Camera Battery on the Great Wall ..

Yes, yes it's true.

It was the day of our 10th wedding anniversary and we were on a amazing trip in Beijing which we got back from today.

As most of you know I was excited about my new camera and couldn't wait for all those shots of the Great Wall of China showing depth of field and great detail. I went to take my first picture and nothing would work - Huh? The battery was flat .......how could this be, It's unlikely we'll be back at the great wall in a hurry - we need my camera, what have I done? When it sank in that the battery was well and truly flat and I wouldn't be proudly showing off my new found toy today, I burst in to tears!! OK I know, not good form, but I wasn't feeling that well and I was hugely disappointed. Any lads reading this may feel R's helplessness holding on to his weeping wife in the middle of the square underneath chinese flag at the start of our adventure. You'll be glad to know it was short lived and I bravely (yes very brave I felt) took out my iphone and snapped away.

We ended up having an brilliant time, heaps of fun and lots of walking. It's an awe inspiring wall, the stones are very well trodden, the views are stunning and although it wasn't the clearest of days it was well worth it.

Back at the hotel, having a pre dinner drink, the staff couldn't do enough for us and rather proudly produced all manner of gluten free desserts that the Chef had been working on - we promised to partake after our celebration main course in the hotels fantastic italian restaurant. However, after our superb meal the head waiter kept producing things for us, first it was a cheese plate, then it was more champagne, then he produced a beautiful 10th wedding anniversary mousse cake - all fantastic, but we'd promised the other Chef that we'd taste his carefully prepared desserts. We felt like the Vicar of Dibley - when she had to taste heaps of Christmas lunches. Feeling happy but full, we returned up to the other restaurant and asked them to save the desserts for tomorrow which was against company policy (they would have been thrown) so, we had to eat them.......
