The early morning rain
I struggled to wake up this morning as I was very late to bed, having 'woken up' just before midnight to do a last gasp blip. Helena was up and alert when she brought me a cuppa, whilst Bomble arrived on my chest to say hello as usual.
I saw a few spots of water on the window and asked Helena if it was raining, which of course it was. Then the sky darkened and darkened and the wind blew, rolling the branches of the trees back and forth. Then a downpour started and within a minute there was deluge flowing off the upper roof onto another and water shot straight off the tiles missing the gutter completely. I went to fetch my camera and by the time I got back, the volume of rain had already lessened.
I poked the lens towards where the tiles hang over the gutter, with the sodden moss on the roof breaking the flow of the water. I was quite surprised that the spider's web wasn't damaged by the impact of the rain or the run-off, and that the gutter was doing its job rather well, except for having been bent out of shape at some point this summer. It does however provide an interesting curve to lead the eye in the picture. But despite the amelioration of the rain, you can still see the drops of rain falling vertically as well as a it bouncing off the roof.
Bomble by now was sitting beside me at the window on his cushion which provides his regular vantage point for looking at the neighbour's chickens and their cats. It wasn't long before he decided that was it for the day and retired to crash out on the bed where he will now be till mid-afternoon. I will know what time it is when he surfaces, so I don't need a watch.
