Elan Valley, Cambrian Mountains

On Tuesday we had a wonderful day exploring five reservoirs near the cabin, Llyn Brianne in the Upper Towy Valley and the four interlinked reservoirs in the Elan Valley. Despite the hurricane-strength winds (!) we managed to see them all, either by car or walking. This was our favourite, the last and highest dam in the Elan Valley. The reservoirs were surprisingly full - shows how wet the summer's been! The water in these reservoirs travels downhill all the way to Birmingham - quite a point of contention considering they had to flood Welsh villages in order to create them. Despite their past, they're incredibly beautiful and to us they seemed to enhance the landscape. Wanted to explore the Cambrians further but ran out of time - definitely an excuse to go back!
