Roe Doe
A young doe grazing on the old Berwick to Melrose railway line. Taken from a high seat. The track was dug up during the Beeching days. I really wanted to get a photo of a Roebuck, but when he came out he was very close and was evidently not going to stay still very long. He became tonight's dinner, or rather his liver and kidneys did. You have to get them into the frying pan within the hour otherwise they taste disgusting and can poison you. Bucks are now in season and does are not shot until September. We have to shoot a great many every year to save plantations of young trees and farmers' crops.
