Castle 'De Haar'

A while ago, my friend Janine discovered that this weekend would be 'Dutch castle weekend' with Monday being the 'national castle day' or something or other.

So we made plans to go visit some castles this weekend. To start with we visited catsle 'De Haar' near the village Haarzuilens in the province of Utrecht.


* There are about 200 rooms and 30 bathrooms in the castle...

* Some 100 years ago the village was moved so the castle owner could have a slightly bigger lawn. After breaking the houses and farms down and rebuilding them the village was named Haarzuilens after the names of the castle owners....

* It's also a place where celebrities have stayed for parties and such, so it's very well possible that we have been standing in the bedroom once occupied by Roger Moore or Brigitte Bardot...
