They Are Under Starters Orders

Backblip!

Last night I co-hosted a charity race night with one of my friends. A group of us have spent the last few months organising the event as the inaugural fundraiser for the Arran Brown Rainbow Foundation. Arran was the son of one of our closest friends. He was born with a rare form of Polycystic Kidney Disease and doctors did not expect him to survive beyond his first few weeks. Yet, Arran fought a brave and inspirational battle against his illness, and was well enough to get out of hospital to celebrate his birthday and dedication at home with his family and friends.

Arran passed away after 14 months and whilst the world is a darker place without this wee boy, who always had a smile and wave for you when you visited, there are a lot of people whose lives are brighter forever for having known him.

The charity hopes to support causes that supported Arran during his life and also organisations who specialise in research into Polycystic Kidney Disease. The race night was the first of many events we hope to host to raise funds in Arran's memory.

We had over 160 people attending, who created a fun atmosphere and were incredibly generous and supportive during the night. My friend and I actually really enjoyed hosting the event and were determined to try and do a good job for our friend and his family. Some nice feedback suggests we didn't let him down. Didn't get to take many photos on the night as I was busier than I thought I'd be, but wanted to mark this event with a blip. Just found out that we raised £7000 which is amazing. Well done to everyone who helped make it happen!
