The granite of Combestone Tor

Busy day. N travelled up to Bristol for his clinic appointment and T and I drove down to Devon after I had signed a Declaration at the Yeovil Register Office for the death cert of N's poor aunt who died last week.

Dartmoor was shrouded in low cloud and rain and one had to concentrate on the road watching out for cattle, sheep and ponies who tend to step out in front of the car without much warning. We arrived safely at Auntie's house and the neighbours had done a grand job of keeping it safe and tidy putting out the dustbins etc.

The cloud had lifted by the time we drove back, we bought some sandwiches at the local deli and drove accross the moor once again, stopping at Combestone to eat and enjoy the view and fresh air. Dartmoor is covered with these ancient granite outcrops of rock on top of the hills known as Tors and the landscape has a feeling of space and freedom. Much of it is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall and the area became a National Park in 1951.

We arrived home safely with the good news that N's doctors are pleased with his progress so far!
