Doctor, doctor, gimme the news

Up at the hospital today, seeing the consultant.

Me: "Give it to me straight, doc - I can take it."
Doctor: "Well, your wound's healing nicely. No heavy lifting for a couple of months, but there's no reason why you can't go back to work next week."
Me: "I see... There's no chance of a second opinion, is there?"

Seriously though, I'm delighted to be officially on the mend.

On the way to the hospital, we passed this sculpture. What a patronising piece of nonsense: it always makes me feel indignant on behalf of the people who have to live with it.
