Bare bones

Blowing a gale again today, moist and muggy and the children all a bit giddy. I had a treat today and was allowed to do art with the small ones. They have been learning about primary colours and we indulged in paintings based on the work of Mondrian. The black was brought out at the very last possible moment. Those of you that know small children will know that once the black comes out that's it - unless you whip work away smartly the gorgeous work of art rapidly becomes black, black, back.

Thanks for all the comments re my little pony yesterday - we are now firm friends!!! He positively roared over today as soon as my car stopped across the road. The old wreck is just a few metres down the road from his miserable field so I waded down through incredibly long and soggy grass to get another few blips. The blackened bones are laid bare surrounded by bright orange nails - so rib-like. When the Sutton Hoo ship burial was discovered the timbers had long since rotted bu the remains of the ribs and nails were clearly identifiable in the sand. Some things don't change much.

The Ladies Book Club resumes tonight after our summer break. We should be discussing Joanna Trollope's 'Daughters in Law'. She is renowned for being a bit of an aga saga -ist, but I really enjoyed this and thought she had captured the often perilous relationships between mother in laws and their sons' wives very well. I'm recommending Joseph o Connor's 'Ghost Light' - based on the relationship of JM SYnge (Playboy of the Western World) and his lover Molly. It's told through her eyes and is wonderfully and poignantly written.
Will catch up later.
