The Green of Venice

Trees, vines and other green vegetation are more common in Venice than one might think. For example, part of the eastern end of the island is taken up by parks (one called Gardini, the site for the Venice Bienniale exhibition).

But also throughout the city owners of property seem to maintain greenery wherever possible--evident from glimpses into courtyard after courtyard, and most vividly where the green burgeons over the wall, as here, in three places. But also note the roof garden erected over the building in the center (not uncommon).

This blip shows a typical small canal in Venice, of which there are hundreds. It's best viewed large, especially the center. Don't miss the reflection of the little bridge at the bottom--or the partly green Italian flag in the center :)

This might also be called "Peeling Walls Redux" (see yesterday's blip).
