Loch Achaidh na h-Inich
A rather grand name for a relatively small loch. The weather is on the turn here, last night we had a terrific lightning storm which was even more spectacular when there is no light pollution (no lights once the last train goes through at 8.16!) These cottages were certainly built to withstand the elements. Today there was a lull before the next front arriving this evening so we decided to have a last walk then go home a day early. We headed out from the village to the Balmacara Forest Trails which begin at Loch Achaidh na h-Inich. The map was rubbish and the signage non existent so our short walk turned into something of a three hour hike, but eventually we arrived at Sheila's Cafe at Balmacara Square ( a favourite this holiday) for homemade soup, bacon roll and cake, then it was back over the hill and home.
Above the loch are the ruins of an ancient fortress which we stopped off to take a look at (the big rocks by Tony's feet are part of the wall).
