Yesterday's web...
Thank you all for the kind and supportive words yesterday. Although I was very shaken up I slept fairly well (with only the occasional flashback) and managed to drive Alex to Huntingdon this morning, though I felt a slight and understandable paranoia around large lorries.
Once I'd dropped him off, I took the dogs for a quiet walk round Holme Fen, the best sort of therapy that I know. Last time I visited was during the tail end of Hurricane Katia, and the wood felt wild and dangerous. I'm glad I left quickly that afternoon, as I spotted at least eight fallen birch trees on my morning walk.
This morning all was calm and full of low morning light, making the dew on the grass sparkle, and highlighting the many spider's webs festooning the birch trees. The orb web spiders usually spin a new web every day and this is clearly an old web, as there was no associated spider, and the sticky filaments had captured many birch seeds which glistened brightly. The colour which shows on the web is refracted sunlight - no special effects have been applied!
I'm off to bed now, and won't be commenting much tonight. I'm working in Kent tomorrow and have to catch a train at 6.10am - so another early morning. I had originally thought of driving, but the prospect of the M25 on a Friday afternoon wasn't appealing. Now I'm very glad I decided to go by train...
I'll catch up with you all at the weekend, which actually looks fairly quiet for once!
