Red Garden Spider

I think this is a red garden spider which seems to be a form of a crab spider.

It was a rather large spider found in our garden in Albuquerque New Mexico. Definitely the largest spider I have ever seen other than a tarantula in my garden. The size was about that of a smallish blueberry. It was found by my neighbor Josh and Mara. My 3.4 year old budding arachnologist granddaughter was totally fascinated and spent 30 minutes peering at it and happily chattering to it much to the spider's dismay. She insisted on the photo and then relocating to a "safer location" (farther from the street as she was worried it would cross without looking in both directions).
