IKEA...
... has opened a branch in Menorca, along with Lidl, to the great excitement of the ex-pats here used to expensive furnishings and occasionally limited produce. As a recently converted fan of the Swedish store (the disabled access, the candles, the picture frames!) I just had to pay it a visit. Imagine my dismay to enter a single square space with a few items on display, samples of the wood the wardrobes and kitchen cupboards are made of, and computer terminals to look at the details, prices etc and to place an order. Judging by the absence of huge warehouse I assume the goods will have to be shipped over from the mainland in due course. I'm gutted: the whole IKEA experience (slap-up meal, wandering around for hours playing spot-the-rudest-product-name and indulging in a multitude of impulse buys - another quirky cushion, a plant-of-the-week, cappuchino biscuits and the compulsory scented tealights and photo frames) has been sidelined in favour of serious buying of stuff.
We did some grocery shopping (not in Lidl) and had a stroll round Mahon before rain stopped play and continued for the rest of the day. Still hot though. Overdid the walking and fell asleep editing photos again, which is why this is a day late.
Africa coincidentally was IKEA blue today.
