The Lazy Diarist

By MASmith

Times have changed...

Had a cracking weekend in a youth hostel with some old friends. We'd hired the hostel out and a 30 strong compliment of 30 somethings (and one soon to be forty something!) and their various offspring had a good laugh, and a lot of curry.

This plaque make me realise that things have changed - youth hostels used to run on this principle. I used them loads as a youth and they were a great way of making the fantastic British countryside an affordable and reachable proposition. They are still cheaper than B&Bs and they try to stick to the old principles, but I think they're more corporate than they used to be. I guess they have to survive.

We've changed over the years too, and yet we haven't. Kids and jobs and responsibility might have changed how we spend our days, but on those occasions where we get together, it's really like those old times when we were at uni. Alas, I could take my drink then....
