Stained Glass Windows in Blackford Kirk

After such a busy day yesterday we had a bit of a long lie this morning. As my husband went off to Glasgow to visit his parents, I decided to take my mum to Blackford Kirk, who were taking part in the Perth and Kinross "Doors Open" weekend.

This was the church that I used to go to every Sunday with usually my dad, and we sat in the same pew every Sunday. I went to Sunday school there and also Bible Class. I remember as a very young girl, when being told the story of Adam and Eve, being so confused as to how they got there, and then having their two sons Cain and Abel, who they were going to marry in order for them to produce children. (I never got a convincing answer to that question!) I also remember the Sunday school teacher whose name was Christian (yes really), and thinking how ugly she was because her face was covered in really large angry spots! (I was only about 6 so forgive me!).

It's truly a beautiful church inside, with many stained glass windows, gifted to the church from locals. These three windows are in the chancel, were gifted by Rev James McGibbon in memory of his son who was killed in South Africa fighting in the Boer War on 16 October 1900. They are from left - Fight the Good Fight, I am the Resurrection and the Life and third one, God is Love.

Later, when we took Breagha for a run up to the woods next to the cemetery, I spotted two RED squirrels playing in one of the trees. I stopped the car to watch them, only a couple of feet away. It was amazing seeing them, little red beauties with white breasts. They were chasing each other round the trunk, then stopping and sitting eating nuts. I hear that reds are almost extinct in England, but there are pockets of areas in Scotland where the red squirrels still thrive, with lots of help from people trying to keep the greys out. Lets hope the greys stay away from this area.
