Sunny suburban September

It's been a long holiday weekend making the most of the good weather to do some heavy work in the garden. I kept seeing this huge, weary and sluggish bee. At one point today moved it to a safe place off the chopping block and when we stopped for lunch there it was making the long, slow journey up the trunk of the pear tree - but why? Where is that bee trying to get to?
