Exciting day for Stroud Preservation Trust

This morning I went to the Brunel Goods Shed to watch the BBC crew filming their short piece about the nomination of the building for the English Heritage Angel Awards. I wasn't interviewed luckily, as we had much more experienced Trustees on hand as well as artists from Stroud Valleys Artspace, who are the new tenants of the Shed. The Culture Show are filming all of the sixteen final nominations and they will be showing each of the four nominations in the four categories over four programmes in October, as well as reporting later on the final Award winners at the end of October.

A couple of artists had set up some of their work inside the huge interior space of the Shed. The cameraman wanted more light in the building and so one of the five shutters which we installed last year was raised. The building had always been open to the four winds until we enclosed the building to protect it from the elements and vandals.

One of the exhibits was a huge inflatable structure, which when last filled with helium was accidentally released, took off and landed eventually in Cambridgeshire! It was tethered inside today. On the plinths on the right you can see some carnival costumes which another artist had bought from a Brazilian carnival dancer, as the basis for a project to produce our own local carnival costumes for future use. On any other day I would have shown you close-ups of the costumes, but I thought a wide shot was essential here.

This was one of the first pictures I took this morning, as I love this view eastwards of the railway track leading up the Golden Valley on its way to Swindon and then London. These doors won't be open too often so I grabbed the chance. I had to adjust the image a bit, and have unfortunately introduced a pink cast to the clouds, which annoys me. I will have to work out why.

NB
I just wanted to tell you that one of Helena's sisters has posted her first Blip today.
